Xiamen, 24 July 2026 – Following an extensive renovation and enhancement, Kaffee on 2 at Kempinski Hotel Xiamen officially reopened its doors on 24 July. To celebrate the occasion, the hotel hosted an exclusive ‘Four Chefs Collaboration’ culinary evening. The event brought together Chef Hey Ming, founder of Hey Ming Restaurant in Xiamen, and Chef Leon Naumann, Chef de Cuisine – Western Operations at Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Center, alongside Executive Chinese Chef Jacky Qian and Chef de Cuisine, Western Kitchen, Bob Shen of Kempinski Hotel Xiamen. Together, the four chefs created a unique cross-cultural dining experience, bringing Minnan culinary heritage and authentic German classics to the table while celebrating Kempinski’s rich European gastronomic legacy and commitment to embracing local cultures.
The four chefs presented a specially curated menu that brought the theme of ‘Local Heritage Meets German Classics’ to life. Combining regional ingredients, traditional craftsmanship and contemporary culinary techniques, the menu celebrated the vibrant culinary spirit of Xiamen alongside the refined flavours of Germany, offering guests a memorable gastronomic journey that bridged culinary traditions and cultures.
Representing the rich culinary heritage of Xiamen, Chef Hey Ming has dedicated more than three decades to preserving and promoting Minnan cuisine. As the founder of Hey Ming Restaurant in Xiamen, he has remained committed to showcasing authentic local flavours and traditional culinary techniques. During the evening, he presented his signature Hey Ming Traditional Xiamen Spring Roll, prepared according to traditional methods with locally sourced ingredients including oysters, pork belly, shrimp and bamboo shoots. Slowly simmered to draw out their natural flavours and complemented by distinctive toppings such as traditional peanut candy and seaweed, the spring roll captured the essence of Xiamen’s culinary heritage, evoking the warmth and cherished memories of Minnan cuisine.
Chef Leon Naumann, originally from Frankfurt, Germany, brought his expertise in traditional German cuisine to the collaboration. He currently serves as chef de cuisine, Western Operations, at Kempinski Hotel Beijing Yansha Center and has more than a decade of culinary experience in European luxury hotels, including renowned properties across Europe. Specialising in reinterpreting traditional German cuisine through modern culinary approaches, Chef Leon presented a selection of iconic German dishes for the occasion, including German-style Tomahawk Steak with Caramelised Onion and Bone Marrow Sauce, Traditional German Baked Cod, Pork Knuckle Praline and Bacon, Pink Onions and Gruyère Cheese Pancake. Each creation reflected Germany’s culinary philosophy of respecting premium ingredients and preserving authentic cooking craftsmanship.
Together with Executive Chinese Chef Jacky Qian and Western Chef Bob Shen of Kempinski Hotel Xiamen, Chefs Hey Ming and Leon Naumann brought two distinct culinary traditions together, creating a menu that connected the flavours of Minnan cuisine with German classics. The collaboration offered guests an exceptional dining experience that celebrated creativity, heritage and innovation while showcasing the role of cuisine in bringing cultures together.
The culinary evening culminated in the official reopening ceremony of Kaffee on 2, with General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Xiamen Gerhard Doll joining the four chefs to celebrate the occasion. A ceremonial cake cutting featuring the iconic Black Forest Cake paid tribute to Kempinski’s deep-rooted European culinary heritage while symbolising a new chapter for the restaurant. Following the ceremony, guests were invited to experience Kaffee on 2’s renewed ambience and enhanced culinary offerings, as the restaurant began its next chapter with a fresh approach to all-day dining.
Following the ceremony, Kaffee on 2 welcomed guests into its renewed setting, complemented by enhancements to its facilities, a refined buffet layout and an elevated culinary offering designed to create a more engaging and seamless dining experience. Building on this renewed dining concept, Kempinski Hotel Xiamen remains committed to upholding Kempinski’s distinguished European hospitality tradition of more than 125 years, combining international standards of excellence with the authentic character of Xiamen to create memorable experiences for every guest.
